How to use it

  1. Pick Encode or Decode and type or paste your text. The result updates as you type.
  2. For URLs, JWTs and filenames tick “URL-safe”: it uses - and _ and drops the = padding.
  3. To work with a file, open the File tab: drop a file to get its Base64 or data URI, or paste Base64 and download the file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser; text and files never leave your device.

Does it handle emoji and accents?

Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 first, so any character round-trips correctly.

What is URL-safe Base64?

A variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, and usually omits the = padding, so it can sit in a URL or filename unescaped.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 20 MB. Base64 is about a third larger than the original data.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Anyone can decode it. Do not use it to protect secrets.
