EXIF Remover

Strip the location, camera, author and other hidden metadata from your photos before you share them. JPEG and PNG are cleaned without touching the pixels. Your images never leave your browser.

Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Recommended: removing it can change how colours look.

Orientation is part of the EXIF data: a photo that was only rotated by a flag may look rotated after cleaning.

How to use it

  1. Drop one or more JPEG, PNG or WebP photos on the box.
  2. Check the result for each file: it lists what was removed and confirms that no metadata is left.
  3. Download each clean file, or all of them in one ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The files are processed in your browser. Open the Network tab of your browser’s developer tools to check that no image bytes are sent.

Is the picture quality affected?

Not for JPEG and PNG: the tool removes the metadata blocks and copies every other byte unchanged, so the pixels are identical. WebP has to be re-encoded in the browser (quality 95), which changes the file slightly.

What exactly is removed?

From JPEG: Exif (camera, date, GPS), XMP, IPTC, Photoshop blocks and comments. From PNG: eXIf, text and time chunks. The ICC colour profile is kept by default so colours do not shift; untick the option to remove it as well.

My photo now looks rotated. Why?

The orientation of a phone photo is stored in the EXIF data. Without it some programs show the picture as it came off the sensor. Rotate it first in an editor, or export it from your photo app with the right orientation, then clean it.

How do I know it worked?

After cleaning, every file is read again with the same engine as the metadata viewer. The status says “Clean” only if no EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC or ICC data is found.

What about other formats?

GIF, AVIF, HEIC and TIFF are not supported yet. Convert them to JPEG or PNG first with the image converter.
