Punycode Converter
Turn a domain with accents, non-Latin letters or emoji into its ASCII xn-- form, or decode an xn-- domain to readable text.
Runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Pick “Unicode to Punycode” or “Punycode to Unicode”.
- Type or paste one domain per line, such as münchen.de or xn--mnchen-3ya.de.
- Each label (the parts between dots) is converted on its own; plain ASCII labels stay as they are.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser.
What is Punycode?
A way to write Unicode domain names with only the letters, digits and hyphens that DNS allows. A label becomes xn-- followed by the encoded text.
Does it change upper case or accents?
Going to ASCII it applies the standard IDNA mapping: upper case becomes lower case and text is normalised, so MÜNCHEN.de gives xn--mnchen-3ya.de.
Can I convert a full URL?
Paste only the domain. Paths, ports and queries are not part of a domain name.
Why do I get an error?
A label may not be empty or contain spaces or characters such as / ? # @ :, may not exceed 63 characters once encoded, and an xn-- label must be valid Punycode.
