Password Generator

Create secure random passwords with your browser’s cryptographic random generator. Choose the length and characters, make up to 500 at once, and see the entropy.

Replaces the default symbols. Spaces are ignored.

Needs a length of at least the number of types.

How to use it

  1. Pick the length and the character types. Passwords appear straight away and change whenever you change a setting.
  2. Press Generate for a new set. Copy one password with its button, or copy or download all of them.
  3. Use a different password for every account and keep them in a password manager.

Frequently asked questions

Are the passwords sent anywhere?

No. They are generated on your device and never leave this page: no ads, analytics or third-party scripts load here, and nothing you do is logged or stored.

How random are they?

Characters are chosen with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure generator, using rejection sampling so every character is equally likely (no modulo bias). Math.random is never used.

How long should a password be?

For an account protected by a slow hash, 16 or more characters from all four types gives over 100 bits of entropy, which is far beyond brute force. Length matters more than symbols.

What does “at least one of each type” do?

It guarantees one character from every selected type, for sites that insist on them. The remaining characters are random, and the entropy shown is the usual upper estimate for the full character set.

Why exclude 0, O, 1, l and I?

They look alike in many fonts. Leave them out if you will read or type the password by hand.
